Woo!

appleI wake in the soft spring light, chilled, for the wintry nights leave me silvered with frost. Slowly I pry my eyes open, to see gentle green buds tentatively unfurl to taste the breeze. I can feel sugary nutrients flowing through my veins, feeding these tiny leaves as a placenta nourishes the mammalian creatures. Filtered sunlight dapples my body and the energy from the sun warms me, welcomes me to a new day and the promise of another summer. Soon I shall send out buds, and then flowers. Fragrant blooms will perfume the air about me, and I shall bask in the glow of beauty. Then the fruit will come. Tart and green at first, then growing biggerapple

sad socksthe lifeless screen confronts me flashes of bannerssad socks
and 'You Have Been Selected as a Winner!" batter me, blind me until nothing is left.
your limp and drooping email a wet-sock message tossed carelessly moistening my inbox...
...does not brighten my mood.
on the contrary.
it weights me down.
damp heavy wool covering my eyes and nose suffocating me in your soggy sock rejection....
you're not coming home.

wart poemyou arewart poem
a wart on my thumb,
constantly a background irritant never really bothersome,
but annoying in a small-detail way.
the little things like your corny smile in the hallway or another bland, idiotic joke at lunch
never make me angry
but rather send my teeth grinding.
at the end of another lifeless punchline, my jaws ache from the constant clenching and i wait for the day that i can freeze you off
like the wart you are.

Many people never stop to realize that a tree is a living thing, not that different from a tall, leafy dog that has roots and is very quiet.
